Leadership

Adam Bogatsu
As a professionally registered civil engineer with ECSA, I bring experience across multiple civil engineering specialisations. I hold both a B.Eng. and a B.Eng. (Hons.) degree from the University of Pretoria, where I am currently completing my Master’s in Engineering.
Since beginning my professional career in 2011, I have gained hands-on experience in the planning, design, and implementation of municipal roads and stormwater infrastructure projects. My focus later shifted to the water and sanitation specialisations, where I worked extensively on both reticulation and bulk infrastructure projects.
In addition to normal engineering services, I have built a solid foundation in strategic infrastructure planning – encompassing the development of master plans, water services development plans and asset management strategies aimed at ensuring long-term, sustainable service delivery. My interest in these specialisations grew from the realisation that our context, as a country, is not one of infinite financial resources. The fiscal challenges that our country continues to face, have convinced me that my mindset as an engineer should be one of continuously exploring how we can do more with less, as well as preserve what is already existing, when it comes to conceptualising solutions for clients and communities.
My career also includes a term when I served as a Technical Director at a local municipality as part of a Section 154 intervention team, providing me with valuable insights into the local government sphere. This period of my career became one of the most significant periods in defining my professional convictions. All of the assumptions I held about the root cause of local government’s seeming inability to overcome service delivery challenges were replaced with hard facts. As a result, I have grown a deep desire to journey with municipalities beyond normal engineering services and constantly look for opportunities to entrench participatory governance that brings together political structures, the administration and most importantly the communities that they serve.
Now as Founder and Managing Director of Bolema Consulting, I am passionate about delivering infrastructure solutions that are technically sound, sustainable and communicate respect and a sense of responsibility to the communities who benefit from them.
